Throwing Athlete of the Month

Canyon Putnam
March 2025
Canyon Putnam is a freshman phenom at Santa Fe High School. Canyon is carving out a name for himself as a lockdown closer and versatile infielder. His season didn’t begin with glory, but with grit. A week before opening day, Canyon fractured a finger on his non-throwing hand and was sidelined for all scrimmages and early games. But he didn’t miss a beat. With a bulky cast on his glove hand, he kept attending pitching lessons, working on one-handed batting drills, and showing up every day with the same fire and focus as if he were in the starting lineup.
Since his return, in 5 relief appearances and 8.2 innings pitched, Canyon has faced 44 batters with a crisp 3.5 pitches per batter and just 18.1 pitches per inning. He leads the team in runners left on base (10), owns a 56.82% first-pitch strike rate, and boasts a 61.15% overall strike percentage. His 2.00 strikeout-to-walk ratio ranks second on the team, and his 3.231 ERA speaks to his consistent command and poise under pressure. He sets the tone with his work ethic and raises the bar with his attitude.
